Life is Not a Casserole

“If you don’t have a meditation practice yet, you need to start one,” my teacher said to me and my fellow yoga teacher training students. She stressed that it is difficult to be a good yoga teacher and not have a meditation practice.

Actually, I think her exact words were, “You CANNOT be a good yoga teacher and not have a meditation practice.”

Meditation is a big deal. In 2003, ten million adult Americans claimed to have a meditation practice, twice as many as ten years earlier.

More and more physicians are recommending it as a way to prevent, slow, or control the pain of chronic disease such as cancer, infertility, heart conditions, and AIDS.  It’s been shown to help restore chemical imbalances due to depression and ADD.
